On May 29th 2020, the Trade Office of Vietnam Embassy in Singapore (VTO) organized successfully the Vietnam-Singapore Business Networking Webinar on Food Industry. The event was jointly organized by the Trade Promotion Agency (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam) and the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF).

This is the first event in the series of online activities that the VTO will continue to implement in the coming months to bring useful and up-to-date information in various industries to businesses. This is also an opportunity for businesses of Vietnam and Singapore to discuss and find new orientations and solutions to the Covid-19 challenges. In addition to the online seminars, the VTO will continue to organize virtual B2B matchings to help businesses to interact and overcome the geographical obstacles due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. It is a way to circumvent the supply chain disruptions and keep up with the new paradigms in doing business.

This Webinar focused on Food Industry has attracted more than 120 businesses from both countries to participate in one working day. During the Webinar, Singapore businesses have had opportunities to learn concrete information about business and investment potentials; supporting mechanisms; as well as special products of Bac Giang province. Besides speakers from Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade, other experienced speakers in the field of commerce, food industry and product quality standards from Vietnam and Singapore also shared prestigious information on the challenges of Covid-19 to the food industry and the ways to deal with it. The business audience from the two countries has learned many solutions to restructure the food industry, towards more sustainable and resilient production methods.

This is the first time Singaporean businesses have the opportunity to access online B2B via Virtual chat rooms divided by product fields with the support of online interpreter. Therefore, the event was strongly responded and highly appreciated by both sides. The President of SMF, Mr Douglas Foo also welcomed this initiative and considered it as a good way to promote the Food trade between Vietnam and Singapore. The participation of the VTO and governmental agencies from Vietnam is considered by Singaporean businesses as a good “guarantee” for effective and high-quality connections.

The VTO will continue to work with Singapore partners and Vietnam agencies to enrich the online activities and to create more business and investment opportunities to businesses of the two countries. A number of priority industries of the two countries will be focused in the coming time, such as: construction (materials, pre-engineered products, furniture …); supporting industries (machinery, cars, electronics …); textile and footwear; high-tech industries (information technology, pharmaceuticals, precision engineering, renewable energy …). In addition, the VTO will also cooperate with other local provinces in Vietnam to “exhibit” their potential products and investment opportunities to Singaporean businesses.
