On February 26, 2019, the People’s Committee of Can Tho City and Power Generation Corporation 2 (Genco 2) had a meeting with JERA Company (Japan) on a solution of using liquefied national gas (LNG) replacing FO for 660 MW O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant (TPP).

According to Mr. Shinsuke Nakayama – the Representative of JERA, the company can supply for O Mon 1 TPP a stable LNG source at a reasonable price.

Mr. Le Quoc Vu – Deputy General Director of Genco 2 said that at present, the O Mon 1 TPP (belonged to O Mon Power Center) is operating by FO and will use gas from Lot B in the third quarter of 2021 in accordance with the plan of Ministry of Industry and Trade. However, the progress schedule of Lot B gas is not clear, so the proposal of JERA to supply LNG in the third quarter of 2021is completely suitable to the actual demand of the plant.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City asked JERA to complete the detailed plan of the cooperation project as soon as possible for O Mon TPP to submit to the leaders of Can Tho City for consideration and support for implementing the necessary procedures, as well as enjoying preferential policies in accordance with the current regulations.
