TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) is a holistic approach to equipment maintenance that strives to achieve perfect production. TPM emphasizes proactive and preventative maintenance to maximize the operational efficiency of equipment. It blurs the distinction between the roles of production and maintenance by placing a strong emphasis on empowering operators to help maintain their equipment.
According to Department of Science and Technology, MOIT, during implementation time of National Program for “Improving productivity and quality of products and goods of Vietnamese companies to 2020” (Program 712), many Vietnam companies have applied TPM, and they have significant improved shortly.
In 2019, Phu Tho textile Pte Ltd joined the program of MOIT to support to apply TPM. They had practised maintenance frequently, but it had not recovered the problem of leather bell – which was a key point in process.

After applying TPM, with the consultancies of experts, equipment problems were recovered, the time for maintenance was reduced while its working time was increased.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ha – Director of Phu Tho textile Pte Ltd said “After applying TPM, our product quality was kept up good at 95-98% of A level”.
According to experts, to get TPM efficiency it is important to have the collaboration and interaction of all workers in the line to improve productivity of equipment. In the company, maintenance is especially important. Stopping equipment is one of points in processing, but it must be minimized and not to stop immediately by accident or out of order.
To gain this successful, the simplest way is operation workers must join to maintenance task independently of engineers. All staffs need to be trained and practiced whole analysis and improvement methods to strengthen their active and spirit team and their collaboration between teams.
