Interns will learn the subtleties of reading cattle, cutting, sorting and driving cattle with class, and roping cattle for the purpose of branding and doctoring. That is the fun stuff, in ranching, and no one is going to let you work cattle on horseback until youve shown that youre not a liability when handling cattle on foot. The ranch is a family-owned operation consisting of 20,000 acres. Doing so may put your safety at risk. We require prior horsemanship experience due to the shortened internship period. No guests at the ranch (its completely fine if friends or family drop you off for the internship or pick you up after, but you cannot invite guests to visit you or stay at the ranch while you are here). The ranch calves over 450 head of 2-year old heifers, 500 head of 3-year olds, and 2,550 head of old cows. They will become adept at maximizing their effectiveness in participating with a horse on a lead rope, from the fence and in the round pen.
